Each week, we are proud to feature a customer's side hustle or small business. As your community bank, helping your business succeed is our main goal.

This week we are proud to feature Mike Black, the locally famous Elvis Tribute Impersonator and Entertainer!

Mike Black has been doing Elvis impersonations and entertaining crowds for over 30 years. He first started out singing country music, then oldies with his own band, Mike Black & the Stingrays. Mike is actually one of the most experienced regular contestants at the annual Elvis Extravaganza at the Oklahoma State Fair.

A few years ago, Mike was featured in a NewsOk article after his performance at the Elvis Extravaganza.

Mike saw Elvis Presley perform on July 2, 1973 at the Myriad and was inspired by the King's powerful stage presence. When Mike started his own performing career in the late 1970s, Presley was a key influence, but he did not start performing tribute shows until the late 1980s, when a club owner asked him to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Presley's death. Mike soon discovered that his impersonation was a hot ticket.

“I had people calling me, saying ‘We need you to sing Elvis' or ‘We need you to do a wedding,'” Black said. “I turned to my wife and said, ‘You need to make me a costume, honey!'”

During Mike's tributes he goes all out by rocking the recognizable Elvis suit, scarves, and even hands out teddy bears. He also performs Singing Elvis Grams, where he sings only a few songs than leaves. You can check out a video of one of his performances here!

He has won awards in Las Vegas as Entertainer of the Year in 1995 & 1996, as well as Male Vocalist of the Year 1997 from the Country Music Associations of America. Mike also won Male Vocalist of the Year in Oklahoma in 1996 & 1997.

When he’s not performing solo, Black and his band “The Stingrays” can be seen around the metro area several times a month. Mike also provides karaoke and DJ services - you may have seen him at eastern Oklahoma County's popular German festival, Oktoberfest.

Don't miss your chance to meet Mike Black in person and even purchase one of his CD's at his pop-up shop at our Choctaw branch on Friday, July 13th from 10 am - 2 pm. The address for the pop-up shop & Choctaw branch is 15801 NE 23rd St. Choctaw, OK 73020.

If you would like to purchase a CD or book Mike Black for a performance or services, you can contact him at (405)406-5810 or [email protected]
